Yazama Homestay – A Unique Nature Retreat In The Chiang Mai Mountains
Perched in the mountains of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, Yazama Homestay is everything you could dream of for a nature getaway. Tranquility, exoticism and comfort combine in an idyllic setting, for a rustic stay, inspired by the Akha way of life.

In the heart of the jungle, about an hour north of Chiang Mai, lives the Akha community. Originally from Tibet, this tribe has been living in northern Thailand for many years, following immigration across Asia. Today, there are over 400,000 members, whose traditions reflect the influences of their journey through China, Laos and Myanmar, resulting in a mixture of animist and Buddhist practices. Very much connected to the land, the Akhas favor a traditional way of life, punctuated by nature and their beliefs, which punctuate their daily lives. They are also known for their traditional hand-woven garments in flamboyant colors.

Yazama Homestay has been located in the heart of this community since 2020. Originally from this tribe, owner Nook wanted to share her Ahka culture through a unique experience. Like a small village, the compound offers rooms inspired by traditional Akha dwellings. Made from wood and bamboo, they provides the opportunity to experience the tribe’s way of life in a romantic setting, surrounded by the elements.

The four types of home (Chalet, Grande, Petite and Standard) combine comfort and cosiness. More spacious and fully equipped, the Chalet and Grande types offer an extra touch (with outdoor bathtub) for an enhanced experience. While the more modest Petite and Standard rooms offer a more authentic and as cozy experience. From breakfast overlooking the misty mountains to dinner around the fire, the restaurant serves simple, tasty Thai cuisine. Perfect for a few days strolling around, or for a getaway for two to the rhythm of the mountains, on which the hillside location ensures a breathtaking view on.

Although secluded, Yazama Homestay enjoys a prime location in a peaceful setting, yet within easy reach of the region’s activities. Whatever you fancy, a visit to an elephant sanctuary (a local essential), kayaking on the river, or a tour of a coffee plantation are all at a stone’s throw. If you don’t have a car, local cabs are always available, and the staff will be happy to accommodate you.
Among palm and banana trees, Yazama Homestay immerses us into the serenity of valleys where silence is gold, and is only interrupted by the sounds of the surrounding wildlife. An authentic and rejuvenating, rustic yet cozy stay in the heart of the Thai mountains, and an opportunity to experience Thailand’s cultural diversity.
