Directed by Berlin-born mixologist Philip Bischoff, BKK Social Club revives the spirit of the Mexican capital with an ingenious menu of cocktails, crafted from sought-after local spirits. Flor de Caña 12-year-old rum, Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej Mezcal (a fragrant, artisanal mezcal distilled from wild agave) and Don Julio 1942 Extra Añejo Tequila (one of the world’s finest) are among the elixirs used, as well as typical Mexican spices and flavors such as cinnamon, jasmine, cocoa, corn and coffee from the Chiapas valley.
Each cocktail evokes Mexican folklore in its own way. The Carlos, for example, echoes the famous guitarist Carlos Santana, offering a highball-inspired drink with rhythmic notes of passion fruit and citrus, while the sweeter, more fragrant Golden Boy features a clever blend of mint and jasmine, topped with an exceptional Mexican rum.
And for those who prefer simplicity to elaborate concoctions, a studied selection of mezcals, as well as Japanese whiskies and sakes, is also on offer.
The best seats are by far at the bar. It features an upside-down lighting for a stunning effect, highlighting the counter behind which an exper brigade is busy providing top-notch service, in pure Bangkok fashion.
